Erykah Benson

Graduate Research Fellow

Erykah Benson is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology researching the impacts of racism on technology and the platform gig economy. Her work focuses on Black people’s access to and usage of technology as consumers and producers. She is a mixed-methods scholar affiliated with the Population Studies Center, Center for Racial Justice, and the National Center for Institutional Diversity. As a Center for Racial Justice Research Fellow, Erykah studies Michiganders’ views toward racial inequality and reparations. Her work has appeared in The Detroit Free Press, Bridge Detroit, and CBS News Detroit.
